Post by chandana » 09 Feb 2011, 05:47

How do I convert DNS code into a IP address.? Okay, I'm about as computer illiterate as they come and it took me all day to figure out how to get into my router and now I'm trying to figure out how to convert my dns code to an ip address and I don't understand, someone please help me out.

I'm not really clear with what you mean by "DNS code" here. But let's assume you mean "DNS name" (for example "forum.excito.net"). What I usually do is I ping it. Just type "ping forum.excito.net". The computer will then check the ip of the host and start pinging it and you'll see the ip adress in the output of the command.

Or any number of whois services (whois.net is my personal favourite).

True. That also gives more information than just dns-ip-mapping. But it only works for public addresses.
