Re: Bubbagen live-USB for B3 updated (version 1.13)
Entering `--nodeps` on the command line is pretty dangerous. In this case it causes portage to select the highest available version which due to the chosen versioning method happens to be the systemd version. Also, the `bindist` USE flag is strictly for me to be able to distribute the software, whic...

Re: Bubbagen live-USB for B3 updated (version 1.13)
So I installed the Bootable live-USB of Bubba OS on my SanDisk Cruzer Fit 16GB USB. It successfully loaded on B3 , but did not mount the 3 TB hard drive. That is correct. The Live-USB does not touch your hard drive unless you specifically tell it to (or run install) LED was Green ! Logged in via SS...

Re: Bubbagen live-USB for B3 updated (version 1.13)
Hi, You should normally not need the kernel sources. Some installations do try to check kernel configuration options though. The warning should go away if you copy the associated files over from `/boot` to the kernel source directory. sh echo "copy the kernel config files to the source dir" cd /usr/...

Re: Bubbagen live-USB for B3 updated (version 1.13)
Hi beezle, The official policy of Gentoo is that you should always upgrade `portage` first after checking for updates. The automation script `genup`, which is maintained by sakaki- , follows that policy but lately there have been some updates to `portage` that seem to cause a conflict in the depende...

Re: Debian buster (10) image 1.0 released for B3
I think the main problem with compiling software on the B3 is that the CPU is single core. For some reason this appears to create serious overhead with some processes. For instance, I used to run a python script to access the Evohome (a heating system) web portal and that needed a minimum of 40 seco...

Re: Debian buster (10) image 1.0 released for B3
Hi Jiri, As Charles explained, it takes quite a bit of effort to make the original GUI work with current Linux OS and the services it aims to support. This is where my main issue with Debian started, as their package manager requires packages to be digitally signed with an approved certificate. As t...

Re: Bubbagen live-USB for B3 updated (version 1.13)
Right. Seems I was a bit too thorough reviewing the files in /etc and I wiped the executable bit from the start/stop scripts in /etc/local.d The system should in fact be up, it's just the front led colour not being changed to indicate that it has reached its running state. I'm also noticing now that...

Re: Bubbagen live-USB for B3 updated (version 1.13)
Yes, you really need serial console access to manipulate the u-boot environment. I actually do have one live system that boots straight from USB, but that's only to overcome the problem that the installed SSD is not recognized by u-boot. The USB really only contains the preboot kernel that allows me...

Re: Bubbagen live-USB for B3 updated (version 1.13)
Sorry. There was a tiny mix-up with file naming. Should be fine now. PS did you download an earlier release of Bubbagen? Might be interested to know that if you are running an older version you don't actually need to write the image to a USB stick. The new installer allows that you loop mount the un...

Re: B3 is dead
RAID is overrated. A common mistake is that people don't watch the logs and end up running with one of the disks broken for an extended period of time. To really protect your data you need to make backups and you should preferably store these off-site. So no, the disks will not be readable on a Wind...

Bubbagen live-USB for B3 updated (version 1.13)
Hi, I've just released version 1.13 of the Bubbagen live-USB image for B3 on GitHub. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gordonb3/cache/master/Bubba/bubbagen-screenshots.jpg This release fixes a number of installation issues and eases maintenance by Bubbagen owning key portage config files required to...

Re: Trouble with bubbagen live boot
Hi, I fear the problem may be in the Bubbagen bootloader that at least in the openrc version was found to target the harddisk for the kernel instead of the USB stick. I'm currently finishing up on version 1.13 which should be up in about half an hour from now and fixes (amongst other) this issue. Go...

It's also not just the repo site. The update sites are down as well and so is ns1, the primary domain server for the easyfind service.

Re: Debian 10 "Buster"
I'm less worried by cronjob emails as I've configured them to be sent to me rather than b3's root. While I suppose this means that they'll still be stored somewhere in the first partition (likely /var?), at least I would become aware of a growing problem because my email traffic would become tediou...
